Are you interested in becoming an Approved Private Home Service operator?

Our approved private service home providers bring experience, knowledge and most importantly, their sustained commitment to make homes for their residents in communities across Saskatchewan. The care we provide begins with creating and maintaining a welcoming environment for the residents. Beyond this, our approved private service home providers work with SAPH to ensure residents receive services tailored to meet their individual needs.

What is expected of a home proprietor?

  • Provide a warm family environment
    Support individuals to make choices and to experience a meaningful life
  • Help individuals to learn daily living skills
  • Provide time for leisure and recreation
  • Respect religious practices
  • Help individuals manage their money
  • Help individuals make and keep dental, medical and other appointments
  • Make sure medication is provided as prescribed by a doctor
  • Work with community agencies with which individuals are involved
  • Help individuals keep in contact with their families (visits, letters, cards, etc.)
  • Provide and encourage a healthy diet and lifestyle
  • Help individuals to participate in their community
  • Assist individuals in dealing with their day-to-day concerns and problems
  • Keep accurate financial and medical records for individuals
  • Share information with Community Living Service Delivery and Mental Health and Addictions Services as required
  • Understand and respect the need to keep information about individuals confidential.

Approved Private Service Homes are licensed under The Residential Services Act and the Approved Private Service Homes Regulations. To become licensed, you must:

  • Complete an application
  • Take part in a home-study process which will involve all members of your family who live in your home (this process can take three to six months to complete)
  • Complete a police records check (those in the home who are age 18 and over)
  • Provide a list of references
  • The home you wish to have licensed must be your principal residence
  • The home must meet provincial health and fire regulations.

If all of the licensing requirements are met and there is a need for Approved Private Service Homes in your area, your home will be licensed.

Providers are paid on a monthly basis by the Ministry of Social Services for providing support to the people in their home. The payment amount depends upon the level of care and support that the individual requires.
